SUMMARY:Members-Only Walking Tour: New York Restoration Project
DESCRIPTION:In honor of New York’s annual Puerto Rican Day Parade in June and of the museum’s current exhibition\, Puerto Rico in Print: The Posters of Lorenzo Homar\, Poster House members are invited to a private\, guided walking tour of four unique community gardens in East Harlem stewarded by the New York Restoration Project. Ranging from small contemplative spaces to thriving centers of food production\, these gardens have been growing and evolving with the East Harlem community for decades. NYRP staff will discuss the historical background of each garden\, the growing importance of urban agriculture\, and the potential of small urban green spaces to address environmental challenges. Highlights include Family Garden\, Rodale Pleasant Park Community Garden\, Los Amigos Community Garden\, and Home Depot Children’s Garden.  \nMembers will meet at Family Garden (431 East 114th St.) at 6pm and complete a approximate five-block loop\, ending at Home Depot Children’s Garden (421 East 117th St.)\, both accessible by public transit (6 train). \nAccessibility Note: Please note that this tour will involve extended periods of walking and standing between multiple locations.
