SUMMARY:First Friday: Dr. Strangelove Movie Screening
DESCRIPTION:Join Poster House for a special screening of Stanley Kubrick’s darkly satirical masterpiece Dr. Strangelove (1964)\, presented in conjunction with the exhibition Fallout: Atoms for War & Peace. This razor-sharp Cold War comedy follows the surreal unraveling of nuclear diplomacy as a U.S. Air Force general sets off an unthinkable chain of events. \nWith a classic performance from Peter Sellers and biting political commentary\, Dr. Strangelove captures the absurdity and anxiety of the Atomic Age—echoing some of the themes explored in Fallout.  \nSeating is first come\, first served. \nPlease note: This film is rated PG and is recommended for ages 13 and up. \nAccessibility Note: Masks and clear masks are available free of charge at the museum. Assistive listening devices and stools are available. ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation or a CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) is also available upon request. Please contact access@posterhouse.org or (914) 295-2387 to request interpretation services and to address any other accessibility needs. SUMMARY:First Friday: Ink the News\, Subway-Inspired Printmaking
DESCRIPTION:Pronto-plate printing is an accessible\, user-friendly introduction to lithography. In contrast to heavy\, traditional lithography stones or aluminum plates\, pronto plates are thin polyester plates that allow the printer to mimic the process of lithography based on the separation of oil and water to create and transfer an image. In this drop-in workshop inspired by posters in From the Bronx to the Battery: The Subway Sun\, participants will make their own unique newspaper prints! \nThe Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop (RBPMW) is a dynamic community print studio that honors the legacy of pioneering artist and master printmaker Robert Blackburn (1920–2003). Founded in a spirit of inclusivity and artistic excellence\, RBPMW provides a supportive\, collaborative space for artists of all backgrounds to explore and expand their printmaking practice. SUMMARY:First Friday: Let’s Walk Shop
DESCRIPTION:First Friday: Let’s Walk Shop—Dissect Chelsea’s Posters with a Professional Designer \nHave you ever wanted to analyze the posters we see on the street every day in the company of a professional? Join award-winning graphic designer Zipeng Zhu on a humor-filled\, energetic romp through Chelsea as he dissects\, criticizes\, praises\, and even tears apart (not literally) contemporary advertising posters that have been flypasted around NYC. Learn how to look at a poster through a designer’s lens and get a feel for good (and bad) composition\, color\, balance\, and messaging.  \nEvent starts at PH but is throughout Chelsea. Attendees should be prepared to walk for about an hour on the streets of New York. Headsets will be provided to ensure you don’t miss any of Zipeng’s insightful (and witty!) commentary. \nZipeng Zhu is a Chinese-born artist\, designer\, educator\, and founder of the award-winning creative studio DAZZLE in New York City. He wants to make every day a razzle-dazzle musical. He has collaborated with iconic brands such as Apple\, Adidas\, Adobe\, Coca-Cola\, Instagram\, Microsoft\, Netflix\, the New York Times\, the New Yorker Magazine\, Uber\, MTV\, and Samsung. His work has been exhibited at major museums and institutions in cities all over the world\, including New York\, Barcelona\, Dubai\, Shanghai\, Beijing\, and Mumbai. Zipeng dedicates his days running both the Dazzle Studio and merch shop Dazzle Supply\, bringing his dazzling design to clients and everyday fans around the globe.  \nAccessibility Note: The museum will be providing headsets that are compatible with standard RF devices so that the tour guide can be heard above the street noise. ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation is also available upon request. Please contact access@posterhouse.org or (914) 295-2387 to request interpretation services and to address any other accessibility needs.
