Poster House is delighted to welcome the disability arts ensemble Kinetic Light. Alice Sheppard and Laurel Lawson from Kinetic Light will be presenting a work-in-progress excerpt from their newest dance work\, The Next T.i.M.es\, and additional Kinetic Light works. \nWorking in the disciplines of art\, technology\, design\, and dance\, Kinetic Light creates\, performs\, and teaches at the nexus of access\, queerness\, disability\, dance\, and race. The company is led by disabled artists; disabled artists create\, design\, and perform the work. This evening’s set will feature Aurea Young\, Sureni Weerasekera\, Quin Lamar\, and Gabe González.  \nGlo Butler is a stand-up comedian\, host\, and producer of queer\, trans\, and BIPOC comedy shows\, Glo in the City Live and Unplugged Variety Show. They have been featured in New York Comedy Fest\, Comedy Central\, and Time Out‘s list of queer\, BIPOC comedians to know.  \nAurea Young is a Brooklyn based comedian\, improviser\, and poet. She cohosts the video podcast The Strap Down that focuses on queer life through the Black femme lens. She has been featured in the New York Comedy Festival\, Brooklyn Pride\, Dyketopia\, and the PBS docuseries ShelterMe. \nQuin Lamar is a comedian known for his sharp wit and engaging performances. \nSureni Weersakera is a Sri Lankan-born\, San Diego-raised\, and New York-based stand-up comedian\, actor\, and writer. She is known for her lighthearted\, conversational banter as well as her ruthless\, dark jabs and has worked with Netflix\, HBO\, Amazon\, META\, and Don’t Tell Comedy. \nGabe González is a Puerto Rican comedian\, writer\, and actor known for his roles in The Last OG\, Habla y Vota\, and Audible’s The Comedians. He has been featured in Brooklyn Magazine’s “30 Under 30” and Time Out New York’s “Comedians of Color You Should Know\,” and has produced content for MTV\, GLAAD\, and Remezcla.

DESCRIPTION:New York City is considered to be a mecca for comedians\, so what better way to celebrate Wonder City of the World: New York City Travel Posters than with a comedy show? Poster House is excited to host a special edition of Glow in the City\, a monthly queer\, trans\, and BIPOC comedy show spotlighting diverse comedians. This evening’s set will feature Aurea Young\, Sureni Weerasekera\, Quin Lamar\, and Gabe González.  \nGlo Butler is a stand-up comedian\, host\, and producer of queer\, trans\, and BIPOC comedy shows\, Glo in the City Live and Unplugged Variety Show. They have been featured in New York Comedy Fest\, Comedy Central\, and Time Out‘s list of queer\, BIPOC comedians to know.  \nAurea Young is a Brooklyn based comedian\, improviser\, and poet. She cohosts the video podcast The Strap Down that focuses on queer life through the Black femme lens. She has been featured in the New York Comedy Festival\, Brooklyn Pride\, Dyketopia\, and the PBS docuseries ShelterMe. \nQuin Lamar is a comedian known for his sharp wit and engaging performances. \nSureni Weersakera is a Sri Lankan-born\, San Diego-raised\, and New York-based stand-up comedian\, actor\, and writer. She is known for her lighthearted\, conversational banter as well as her ruthless\, dark jabs and has worked with Netflix\, HBO\, Amazon\, META\, and Don’t Tell Comedy. \nGabe González is a Puerto Rican comedian\, writer\, and actor known for his roles in The Last OG\, Habla y Vota\, and Audible’s The Comedians. Join author\, historian\, and architectural designer Tom Rinaldi on a 13-mile urban hike that will trace Manhattan’s spine from the island’s northern end down to Battery Park. \nWith brief pauses to admire points of cultural\, historical\, and architectural interest along the way\, this all-day tour will follow Broadway from the land of low-rise buildings and elevated trains in upper Manhattan\, down past the old moviehouses and pre-war apartment buildings of Harlem and the Upper West Side\, on to the office towers and marquees of the theater district to the canyon-like streets of lower Manhattan\, before finally leaving off at the breeze-swept southernmost tip of the island. DESCRIPTION:In honor of the exhibition Wonder City of the World: New York City Travel Posters\, Poster House is hosting a walking tour celebrating the history of the Queer Harlem Renaissance. On Saturday\, August 17\, step back in time to learn about the queer Black artists and writers who dominated the cultural space between  1919 to 1935. This tour celebrates the gay social networks of the Harlem Renaissance\, as well as the safe spaces that were integral to the community—spaces that no longer exist. Utilizing augmented reality through the Queer Harlem phone application\, participants will walk through Harlem and witness the people\, places\, and histories of the past\, from Drag Balls to Rent Parties. Bring a fully charged battery and get ready to excavate this exciting history! The event will conclude with a performance by Harmonica Sunbeam and mixer at 4West Lounge. All proceeds from this program will be donated to the Ali Forney Center.\n \nThis tour will be hosted by Brian Turner and Abriannah Aiken\, the co-authors of Disappearing Queer Spaces\, and will feature the Queer Harlem app that digitally reconstructs seven spaces from the Queer Harlem Renaissance\, including the Savoy Ballroom\, the Rockland Palace\, and the Niggeratti Manor (a self-proclaimed name). Please note that none of these spaces currently exist\, so the augmented reality application will be integral to the experience and storytelling! This program was created in collaboration with DLR Group\, which funded the Queer Harlem app through an internal grant.  \nAll proceeds from this program will be donated to the Ali Forney Center. \n
