SUMMARY:Members-Only Tour: Center for Book Arts
DESCRIPTION:Poster House Members are invited to a special private tour of the latest exhibition at Center for Book Arts\, Vico’s Spiral: Half Century of Artists’ Books\, led by librarian Gillian Lee. \nFifty years after Center for Book Arts was founded in 1974\, it is celebrating with a landmark exhibition focused on its own exhibition history. The overarching theme is the scope and diversity of the artists’ books\, concepts\, and practices displayed there over the past half century as seen through the lens of Vico’s Spiral and his nonlinear vision of history; this has been a very useful tool for considering some of the ideas and the broad range of methodologies in these innovative works. \nThis tour will take place at Center for Book Arts\, located at 28 W 27th St\, New York\, NY 10001. Space is limited! \n

SUMMARY:Apache: An Odyssey
DESCRIPTION:The nomadic Apache peoples’ experience over the past centuries has been characterized as unsettled and violent. In this talk\, Leo Vicenti will use posters and printed ephemera to trace the paths of an adventure as vast as the wild land that spawned it. He will discuss the often cruel and fierce conditions endured by the resilient Apache\, who have been described as “primitive and uncivilized.”He will also explore the visual narrative of the Apache through a map of memories and recollections. \nLeo Vicenti (Jicarilla Apache) is an Assistant Professor of Communication Design at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. He holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago  in Visual Communication Design and a BA in Graphic Design from Fort Lewis College . He maintains practice-based research in exhibition design alongside his creative pursuits in visual communication design. \nThis online event will be hosted on Zoom with attendees’ cameras off.  Automated closed captioning will be provided. ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation or a CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) is available upon request. A recording will be available on Poster House’s YouTube Page shortly after the event. \nPlease contact access@posterhouse.org or (914) 295-2387 to request interpretation services and to address any other accessibility needs. \nFor other event related questions\, please contact info@posterhouse.org. \n

Poster House is pleased to screen the 2021 sequel Space Jam 2: A New Legacy\, in conjunction with the museum’s acclaimed exhibition Just Frame It! How Nike Turned Sports Stars into Superheroes. Don’t miss what one critic has called “a chaotic\, rainbow sprinkle-colored nonsense that\, unlike the original\, manages to hold together as a movie.” \nAccessibility Note: Masks and clear masks are available free of charge at the museum. Assistive listening devices and stools are available. ASL (American Sign Language) interpretation or a CART (Communication Access Realtime Translation) is available upon request. Please contact access@posterhouse.org or (914) 295-2387 to request interpretation services and to address any other accessibility needs. For other event related questions\, please contact info@posterhouse.org.
