Join Poster House on the First Friday of every month for free admission and extended hours! Explore the museum’s latest exhibitions and get in on the fun by attending a tour, workshop, or activity throughout the day.  Every First Friday is different, offering unique opportunities to engage with rotating exhibitions and the permanent collection.

All Day: Tokyo Olympiad screening
Largely hailed as one of the greatest sports movies of all time, Tokyo Olympiad turned the traditional notion of documentary filmmaking on its head, redefining the genre. Enjoy this landmark cinematic feature next to an exhibition of the posters created for the Italian release of the film.

1pm Experimental Marriage Curatorial Tour
Join Poster House Collections Manager Melissa Walker for a curatorial tour of the exhibition Experimental Marriage: Women in Early Hollywood. Learn about the women who shaped the early silent film industry through lobby cards for movies written, directed, produced, art-directed, or edited by them. Questions Strongly Encouraged!

3pm Michael De Feo & RJ Rushmore in Conversation
Poster House is pleased to welcome artist Michael De Feo for a conversation with curator RJ Rushmore on the new book Out of Fashion. This publication explores De Feo’s flower paintings created directly on fashion advertising posters removed from bus shelters. Learn more about the artist’s approach and process during this wide-ranging conversation. Questions strongly encouraged!

6pm Masked Vigilantes Curatorial Tour
Join guest curator RJ Rushmore for a curatorial tour of Poster House’s first contemporary art exhibition Masked Vigilantes on Silent Motorbikes. Learn how the artists like Swoon, KAWS, Jilly Ballistic and more use posters as a medium from which to create entirely new works of art, repurposing the language of mass communication. Discover how advertising shapes our built environment and how artists leverage sanctioned and unsanctioned public art to disrupt what is commonplace.

7–8:30pm Tarot Card Reading with Maia Lorian
Celebrate the start of ~spooky season~ at Poster House with multihyphenate public artist Maia Lorian, whose poster series A Presidential Parody is in the museum’s permanent collection. She will be leading a free, single-card tarot reading from 7 to 8:30pm. Let this performative consultation with the cards guide you into the last few months of the year and get a glimpse of Lorian’s impressive public art interventions.

 Maia Lorian is an actor, creator, Native New Yorker, and artistic director of A Presidential Parody—a guerrilla art ad takeover with live street art performances and interventions around NYC. As an artist, her work has been featured in Hyperallergic, The Nation, Street Art NYC, and many others outlets. Lorian’s pieces are in the permanent collection of Poster House and The 45 Library. Her work as an actor has influenced her practice as an artist, with credits including SNL (NBC), Flight of the Conchords (HBO), The Onion News Network (IFC), and many original works of theater. Her work as a mystic has been featured in Bust, InStyle, Refinery 29, Elite Daily, Bustle, and in many of your favorite astrology apps.
