Genius on Display with DearStephan

Monday, Oct 16, 2023
12–1pm

Poster House’s Genius on Display is excited to present illustrator Stephen Minyi, a.k.a. DearStephan, in conversation with 72andSunny’s Group Creative Director, Sherina Florence. Get an in-depth understanding of this incredible artist’s process and the inspiration behind his unique illustrations.

Known professionally as DearStephan, Stephen Minyi is a South African illustrator based in Cape Town, South Africa. His characters speak from the perspective of a Black artist inspired by streetwear and the never-ending consumption of fashion and hip-hop culture. Influenced by artists such as Norman Rockwell, John Hassall, and Zapiro, Minyi captures the distinct, unique characteristics of his subjects. He primarily designs for editorials, garments, and prints.

This program is presented by Poster House’s CMYK Council, the museum’s BIPOC advisory board that works to ensure the museum is accessible to communities of color.
