Members-Only Tour: Pyaari Azaadi at Pen + Brush
6–7pm
Female Trailblazers: A Special Members-Only Series
In honor of Poster House’s exhibition Utopia in Our Time: The Posters of Molly Crabapple, members are invited to explore the creative work of female trailblazers both past and present.
Pen + Brush is a 131 year old organization dedicated to showcasing the work of emerging and mid-career women and gender-expansive artists to a broader audience.
Poster House members are invited to a private tour of the exhibition Talkin’ Bout a Revolution: Pyaari Azaadi, spotlighting the work of Pyaari Azaadi (b. 1969, Bombay, India), formerly known as Jaishri Abichandani. The show takes its title from Tracy Chapman’s iconic 1988 song and reflects Azaadi’s lifelong commitment to art, activism, and community. An acclaimed painter known for her fearless approach to materials and form, Azaadi embraces a multidisciplinary practice that challenges dominant narratives and centers feminist and decolonial perspectives.
Talkin’ Bout a Revolution offers viewers a deeper engagement with Azaadi’s evolving practice and its cultural, political, and aesthetic significance. Works on view span the artist’s career and celebrate feminist and queer bodies specifically through the lens of Azaadi’s South Asian identity and with a focus on social justice.
This tour takes place at Pen + Brush, located at 29 East 22nd Street, New York, NY 10010.
